Released in 2009 with an edition size of 1400 samples, the Retro Green Hulk Statue has been realized by Randy Bowen with the collaboration of Troy McDevitt. The same sculpt was used on two additional and very appreciated variants: the Red Hulk Statue (so far the only 1:6 scale statue dedicated by Bowen Design to the violent red version of the character) and the Grey Retro Statue, enriched, this latter, by the shreds of a ocher vest on the body of the hero. Later (2011) the Retro was also released by Bowen in a spectacular Faux Bronze version, characterized by a very bright coloration, thus reaching, in my opinion, the aesthetic pinnacle of the vast Bowen production dedicated to Marvel's green Goliath! Compared to the Classic version, the Retro Green statue exhibits a more static pose (although slightly different from the classic "museum" ones). Hulk, in fact, stays erect in a frontal position, in a posture of waiting and preparation for the attack, with the legs just bent, his right hand tense and half-open and the left fist clenched, ready to strike a deadly blow. The figure is impressive, with a muscle mass definitely oversized, especially on the enormous deltoids, the large shoulders and the back of the character, where the sculpt highlights the unnatural muscle contours to perfection. The details and pose of the huge hands and the shades of color scattered throughout the body are very well finished, while the dark purple of the pants offers an excellent contrast with the green tonality used on the figure. The expression of the giant is threatening and carved in a superb way: the eyes look open wide and are surrounded by overprotruding cheekbones and large eyebrow arches; some deep wrinkles join the small nose (slightly aquiline and flattened) to the enormous mouth bordered in black, with the white teeth in good evidence. The sculpt and coloring of the bristly black hair and the small ears at the side of the head are also well done. In practice, the base has the same geometric shape of the Hulk Classic: it represents a rocky and uneven ground, well shaded in color and enriched by twisted metal and wires located at the feet of the character. In spite of the fairly wide run, the quotations of the Green Retro have always been quite high and in recent times are showing a rather relevant rise. In my opinion, the charisma of the character and the undeniable aesthetic impact of this piece have progressively made it a true classic among collectibles, even comparable to the Classic version and really sought-after by all fans. In other words, an unmissable must-have for any Marvel collector.
